Meditation is a holistic discipline available to anyone to use to get beyond the “thinking” mind and move into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Mediation is experienced in many religions as well as outside religious traditions; it has been practiced since ancient times.
Different meditative styles include a wide range of spiritual and non-spiritual goals. Depending on the intent and/or method of meditation practiced, the practitioner can achieve a higher state of consciousness or enlightenment, develop and increase compassion and loving kindness, receive spiritual inspiration or guidance, achieve greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or cultivate a more relaxed and peaceful state of mind.
Eastern meditation techniques have been adapted and are practiced in Western culture. Mudras are one of many forms of meditation used to accomplish spiritual or non-spiritual goals.
The “Meditation” mudra can be used to develop the practice of meditating with Quan Yin.
To practice the “Meditation” mudra, find a quiet place where you can sit comfortably and close your eyes, breathe slowly and deeply in through your nose simultaneously, filling your belly and chest, exhaling slowly through your mouth empting your chest and belly at the same time. Place the four fingers of your right hand on the pulse of your left wrist, pressing lightly and feeling the pulse in each fingertip. Close your eyes and focus on your third eye. With each pulse repeat Quan Yin’s name and continue to breathe.
